Description

Civics and Citizenship Education: Where Are We Now?

Tuesday 20 October | 5:00–6:00 pm | Online via Zoom

What does Civics and Citizenship Education in Australia look like today?

The second event in the Future of Civics and Citizenship Education: AARE Provocations series turns from longstanding challenges to the contemporary landscape.

Steven Kolber (Flinders University) will present a short animated provocation examining the current state of Civics and Citizenship Education, before Naomi Barnes (Queensland University of Technology) offers a 10-minute response.

The session will then open into discussion with participants, creating an opportunity to consider what current research, policy, curriculum and classroom practice tell us about where CCE stands — and what questions remain unresolved.

Session format

5:00 pm — Welcome and Acknowledgement of Country
5:05 pm — Animated provocation
5:15 pm — Response from Naomi Barnes
5:25 pm — Questions, comments and open discussion
5:55 pm — Closing remarks and introduction to the next event

Presenter: Steven Kolber (Flinders University)
Respondent: Naomi Barnes (Queensland University of Technology)

This event is free and will be held online via Zoom. Registration is required.

The session will be recorded for later hosting on the AARE website.
