Clarence Youth Network August Meeting (Special Event) - Safe on Social with Kirra Pendergast
Event description
Clarence Youth Network Members and other sector professionals are invited to join our special event.
Safe on Social with Kirra Pendergast
What We’ll Cover
This session dives deep into the realities of teaching in a tech-saturated world. Led by international digital safety expert Kirra Pendergast, we’ll explore the online platforms we live in, unpack the dangers of deepfakes and AI-powered abuse, and break down what we really agree to in app terms and conditions.
We’ll cover online consent, misinformation, synthetic relationships, gaming culture, group chat dynamics, sexual extortion, and how new laws, including Australia’s upcoming age verification legislation, are reshaping our duty of care.
You’ll leave with clear strategies, real-world examples, and updated tools to navigate your role confidently, without fear, shame, or confusion. Empowering, honest, and grounded in lived experience, this session is about leadership, not alarmism.
This is FREE professional development opportunity proudly sponsored by Clarence Valley Council.
