We are so happy to have Emma teaching at ReadyMade!

Emma Riches is an Australian dance artist working across performance, choreography, writing and teaching with an interest in how these roles can intersect and inform each other. Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts (BFA Dance, 2015), Emma has worked with notable artists including Jill Crovisier (JC Movement Production), Sandra Parker, Jo Lloyd, Siobhan McKenna, Alice Will Caroline, Emma Harrison, Tra Mi Dinh, Phillip Adams/ Matthew Bird, Victoria Hunt, Adele Varcoe, Nebahat Erpolat, Louella May Hogan/ Debbie Sings, Rhys Ryan and Piaera Lauritz as well as Dance Makers Collective, Tasdance, Deep Soulful Sweats and Polito.

Emma’s choreographic work has been commissioned by DirtyFeet, the University of Melbourne and presented at M1 CONTACT Festival Singapore, Sunshine Art Spaces, MPavilion, West Projections Festival, Dancehouse, YW2’s Pilot season, Strawberry Fields Music Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival (Compass Development Program). She has been a choreographic resident at institutions across Australia including ReadyMade Works, Lucy Guerin Inc, Temperance Hall, Ausdance NSW/Tanya Pearson Academy, Strut National Choreographic Centre of WA, GUTS Dance, Dancehouse and Schoolhouse Studios. In 2024, Emma travelled to Vienna to participate in the Dance ATLAS Program at ImPulsTanz. Emma’s choreographic practice is interested in developing structures to push the creative and physical endurance of the performer while finding ways to leave a tangible trace of the performative action. She is the initiator of ‘The Not New Project’, an online platform that profiles specific aspects of dance practice through bite-sized publications. Emma recently premiered her first solo work ‘never are’ as part of The Flying Nun season 9 at Brand X with support from the City of Sydney.

Class Description: Emma’s class gradually progresses in energy and complexity, beginning with a focus on release, imagery and physical conditioning to prepare the body for more dynamic phrase material. Across the class, repetition and accumulation will be used as tools for finding greater anatomical efficiency within movement.
