Community Classes & Workshops

practice, wonder, chat, play, experiment, collaborate, improvise, learn.... join us weekly for a mix of movement practices from artists across naarm. join a space for you to question, dream, discuss, be curious and create community. all are welcome. 

sessions vary weekly, beginning 9th July 2025. Please note, there are no classes 2nd July 2025.

~ July Classes ~

about the classes: 

inplay workshop with alec - Blending elements of dance, improvisation, and embodied play, these sessions offer a chance to reconnect with your body, shake off the drudgery of everyday movement, and rediscover your inner sense of fun. Expect to get a bit silly, playful and wonderfully free in a supportive and open environment. Alec, with his background in contemporary dance, improvisation and choreography, brings a unique movement approach drawn from his research in ‘Play’, alongside pulling from three years of yoga teaching and his current Pilates Teacher Training. Sessions begin with gentle warm-ups to prepare the body, before diving into improvisation and physical exploration.

contact improvisation with aimee - Through the container of contact improvisation, we will explore rolling points, weight shifting and sharing and how to communicate with and receive information from another body. We will approach these concepts with a sense of playfulness, curiosity and experimentation, with gravity, falling and flying.Contact improvisation allows for an exploration of deep listening to the self in contact with another, and tuning in to layers of somatic information.

creeping cats floor workshop - The Creeping Cat workshop will explore the art of floor dance and flow acrobatics. Participants will learn unique, complex, and exciting tricks, paired with transitional movements to create intriguing combinations.

give me a mic open rehearsals - Join us as we work on our newest project at CoExist. Come and be an extra body, observe, or participate however you see fit in open rehearsal sessions, and get an insight into our creative processes.

open personal practice - an opportunity for artists to access studio space for their personal practice free of charge (registration required).
