The event outlines a journey of professional growth in communication, starting with an early clinical experience that highlighted its importance over technical knowledge. It moves through learning to truly connect with patients, adapting communication across cultures while working internationally, and developing skills for public speaking roles up to AMA President.

  • Speakers: Dr William Tam, Director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

  • About this session: Traces a doctor’s journey in mastering communication, from the first clinical experiences that showed its importance beyond technical skills, to learning how to connect with patients, adapting across cultures in Japan, Amsterdam, and London, and developing the ability to speak with impact as a consultant and AMA President. It introduces three pillars of professional communication clarity, credibility, and compassion supported by personal anecdotes, and concludes with advice for young professionals to practice early in safe environments like PSC. The session also includes a Q&A and opportunities for participants to practice their own public speaking.
