Climate 200 Northern Rivers Community Get-Together

We are excited for our first event in the Northern Rivers, where more than 1,400 locals are already part of Climate 200’s 34,000-strong national supporter community — for an important conversation about this political moment and what’s at stake.

The need for action to address the climate crisis has never been more urgent. We need governments prepared to take on powerful vested interests and restore integrity to our politics. Yet too often, our political system is failing to deliver - and the consequences of that failure are now reshaping politics. 

Anger and disillusionment with the major parties are creating a powerful opening - one that Pauline Hanson’s One Nation and well-funded networks of influence and disinformation have been quick to exploit. Recent polling suggests that if an election were held today, One Nation could win dozens of seats across the country.

Community independents offer a powerful alternative. They can shift the balance of power towards stronger action on climate, integrity and gender equality - and could be the difference between whether One Nation has a role in the next government or not.

The evening will be hosted by Climate 200 Co-Convenors Kate Hook and Simon Holmes à Court, along with Executive Director Byron Fay, and we’re delighted to be joined by Independent MP Nicolette Boele and local filmmaker, author and activist, Damon Gameau, as our special guests.

Together, we’ll explore how this movement can keep growing - turning frustration with a broken system into community-powered political change.
