    Event description

Climate change impacts every country in the world - and it’s not just affecting the environment, it’s impacting people’s lives and destroying communities.

At Young Change Agents we want to empower young people in Australia to make a difference and take climate action with our latest free online design thinking challenge. The challenge empowers young people to consider how they can take climate action by identifying problems, reframing them as opportunities, developing a solution and creating a prototype.

In this professional develop workshop you'll be joined by a Young Change Agents facilitator who'll provide an immersive virtual training experience covering:

    • How to run the design challenge with your students
    • Free resources to help you deliver the challenge
    • Curriculum links
    • Challenge competition opportunities for students

Our design challenges are completely free to access for teachers and a great way to introduce design thinking to your students and in this workshop.

If you're new to teaching design thinking or would like a refresh then this workshop is for you.

About Climate Action Youth Design Challenge
Tackling climate change is the 13th United Nations Sustainable Development Goal. It calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impact. With the recent COP26 summit in Glasgow, climate action is more important than ever – and young people like you are the key to imagining a better future.

Our challenge for young people across Australia is: Less talk, more action. How might we create innovative solutions to tackle climate change?Within this challenge, there are three key themes we encourage you to explore:

    1. Renewable and responsible energy use: Globally, energy use is increasing at an unsustainable rate. Only 1/5th of the world’s final energy consumption in 2013 was from renewable sources.
    2. Preserving our water supply: Only 3% of the world’s water is fresh (drinkable), and humans are using it faster than nature can replenish it.
    3. Sustainable cities: Currently, cities contribute more than 70 per cent of global carbon emissions and over 60 per cent of resource use.
Read on below to find out more about these problems and how to reframe them as opportunities so you can create impact!

The challenge is open to young people aged 10-21 years old who can submit their ideas into the competition. We'll be accepting entries and student ideas from until June 2022.
