CLIMATE ACTION FORUM

Key Leadership Practices and Innovation Tools for Building the Regenerative Era

"As a society, we are at an inflection point. If we don’t act now, we may not have an opportunity to do something later."
- Doug McMillon, President and CEO, Walmart

We are living in an era of unprecedented disruption and discovery, of massive discontinuities and extraordinary possibilities.

Senior leaders are being tested like never before: digitalization, innovation from entirely new players, shifting regulations, low margins, changing customer expectations – today’s challenges are immense. The continually increasing speed of change requires new ways of thinking and acting for every enterprise.

And now we find ourselves on the cusp of an entirely new economic era; an economy that will be shaped by the accelerating climate crisis. From the World Economic Forum (WEF) to companies like Google, Microsoft, Walmart, and SAP, an increasing number of enterprises and their leaders are making commitments for climate solutions that will radically alter their operations and those of their stakeholders.

We are witnessing the beginnings of far-reaching systemic change, and with it the need for every enterprise to re-envision itself, to re-think its operations and organization, and to innovate every aspect of its activities.

Herman and Lisa will address the following:

1. Where Do We Come From? We begin our conversation with the story of how humanity ended up at this remarkable moment in time – 4.7 billion years into Earth's evolutionary journey.

2. Where Are We? In this segment we review some of the most compelling information about how we are approaching climate tipping points, where our potential solutions may no longer be able to keep Earth’s climate within the range required for life as we know it.

3. Where Are We Going? Here we look into the actions required now and review promising work that is already being done.

Takeouts:

Leadership for the Regenerative Era: Herman and Lisa will share with us three leadership practices and a set of innovation tools that we can apply to launch and build the regenerative era.

- How can we make new solutions happen at scale?
- What is your role?
- What potential do you have to make a difference?
- What are the groups that you can belong to in this exciting emerging space of the regenerative era which will include the circular economy, zero carbon, carbon removal and ecosystem restoration?
