Climate change is already affecting communities across the world, with 2023 the hottest year on record globally. Across Australia, students are seeing images of and experiencing these changes in extreme weather, with more frequent and intense heatwaves, storms, flooding and bushfires.

This Climate Essentials for Educators professional short course has been designed for teachers, principals, school administrators, education designers and education policymakers who seek an overview of the latest science, developments and innovative solutions relating to climate change. The course will support educators to increase their knowledge of climate change, and includes an understanding of the ways climate evidence and misinformation can be communicated and addressed, the social justice and cultural dimensions of climate knowledge, innovative climate adaptation and mitigation solutions, and ways to support student and teacher wellbeing when communicating about these issues.

Delivered by the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions, presenters include global leaders in climate science, health and communication, as well as practising teachers and education researchers.

Registrations for this course are open until 13 August 2024.

Bookings are via this Humanitix page. But for more details on the course, go to the ICEDS course webpage at: Climate Essentials for ACT Educators - Pilot Course (August 2024)

NOTE: This pilot course is open to Australian Capital Territory (ACT) registered teachers and ACT-based policymakers only. Teacher admission has been substantially discounted. We are also seeking TQI accreditation for this course.
