Intro Talk:

Dr. Amy Neilson is an Australian-trained Rural Generalist and Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM), with Advanced Specialised Training in Emergency Medicine. She also has a Fellowship of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine (FACTM), and Fellowship of Extreme & Wilderness Medicine (FEWM). Amy works for NSW Health for the Virtual Rural Generalist Service in in Western district and will be dialling in from Nyngan, which is on the lands of the Wangaaypuwan (Wongaibon), Ngemba, Ngiyampaa, and Wayilwan (Weilwan) peoples. Sovereignty never ceded.
 Amy has worked extensively in Disaster and Humanitarian Medicine abroad with Médecins Sans Frontières , the International Federation of the Red Cross, and more recently with CADUS for a World Health Organisation Emergency Medical Team. She worked in the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. Since then, all her overseas positions have been related to active conflict. She has worked in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, Ukraine, Libya, Jordan and Gaza, Palestine.
 Amy has had a long professional interest in the optimal delivery of medical care to populations affected by conflict and in understanding the intersection(s) between/common drivers of conflict, the climate emergency, colonialism, and capitalism.
 She teaches the Semester 2B subject GLOH5124 Humanitarian Crises and Refugee Health for the School of Public Health.

🎙️ Speaker lineup:

Paula Rose Castronova is a prominent leader in sustainable development and environmental advocacy. She focuses on the solutions to climate change through holistic sustainability and innovative solutions, working towards a sustainable future. As Director and Sustainable Development Pillar lead for the UNAA NSW Division, Paula emphasises collaboration and innovation to drive positive transformations across various sectors. Her holistic approach recognises the interconnectedness of social, environmental, and economic issues, fostering a culture of sustainability and inclusivity as promoted through the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Paula is a catalyst for change, dedicated to creating a more responsible and resilient industry landscape for future generations.

Dr Karen Fisher is currently Clinical Director Drug and Alcohol Service, located in Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. She is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney, where she has an active role in Student Support, with qualifications in Arts. Medicine, Public Health Bioethics and Social Science. She is passionate about health equity, bioethics and stigma reduction, Working with a cohort who are born and live in the shadow of a large tertiary hospital in a suburb where temperatures soar past records annually, she is increasingly concerned to provide health care which recognises the devastating impacts of climate change.

Ray Newland is the Founder of the Youth Climate Policy Centre and Chair of the Macquarie University Economics Society. He currently works in policy for the Electrical Trades Union of Australia, is a Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum, and is studying economics at Macquarie University.
