Climate Network Consultation

Event description

Have your say on VCOSS’ climate advocacy!

VCOSS is holding a consultation session on Wednesday 11 September from 10 to 11:30am to capture your insights towards two important climate equity advocacy pieces:

VCOSS is currently developing our yearly State Budget Submission. This advocacy piece aims to influence the Victorian Budget, which is handed down in May each year. It also sets our advocacy agenda for the coming year. This consultation session will give you an opportunity to have a say on the priorities included in this submission as they relate to climate change and disasters.

Last year’s Budget submission can be found here: https://vcoss.org.au/policy/budgetsub/

Separately, VCOSS is researching the capacity of people experiencing poverty and disadvantage to cope with the impacts of climate change. This research is vital because no matter how much action we take in Victoria and around the world to address climate change now, we will still continue to see some degree of climate change impacts into the future. We know people who live in poverty and social disadvantage will be impacted by climate change first and worst.

This consultation session will also give you an opportunity to share how climate change is impacting your clients or the cohorts you represent, and how they would best be supported to cope with these impacts into the future.

This consultation session will be held as part of VCOSS’ Community Organisation Climate Network, which aims to build capacity within the Victorian community services sector around climate change response.
