Climate Network Meeting December 2026
Description
In person VCOSS Climate Network meeting: Heat and the upcoming El Niño summer
Please join those working in community and social services for the final VCOSS Climate Network meeting of 2026 - held in person in Melbourne.
This meeting will focus on heat and the upcoming summer. An El Niño weather pattern is expected – the result of climate pollution from the continued burning of fossil fuels in Australia and around the world – meaning especially hot and dry conditions in Victoria with the possibility of flash flooding. Europe has just had a summer of record-breaking and devastating heat, impacting food production, disrupting supply chains and making outdoor work more dangerous, and causing tens of thousands of excess deaths.
It’s important now more than ever for community and social services to connect and be prepared to respond during these intense and unpredictable conditions.
During this meeting, we’ll hear about weather projections for the summer, where to access warnings and information, and how organisations across the state are responding. Attendees will have an opportunity to share the heat-related work they’re doing and shape the Climate Network for 2027. The in-person format will provide an excellent opportunity for networking and celebrating 2026.
Information on speakers for the meeting is forthcoming.
Arrival will begin at 9:30am for a 10am start. The meeting will take place from 10am to 12pm, and lunch will be served from 12-1pm.
