Close Up 2.03 - Kris Andrew Small

Speaker Bio - A maximalist in every sense, Kris Andrew Small’s work is instinctual, expansive and deeply personal. It’s his way of processing identity and turning chaos into structure. Small is an internationally acclaimed artist and designer known for his bold mix of graphic design, illustration, and activism, characterized by his trademark colour, dynamic typography, radical composition and layered textures.

His unique visual language—embracing movement and abstraction—allows him to tackle important societal themes while maintaining a positive and energetic style.

Small has worked extensively in the queer space, beginning with posters for queer club nights, which has since evolved into a large and important part of his practice—spanning bold activist statements and deeply personal explorations of identity.

His multidisciplinary approach means he is able to push the boundaries of where his art can exist, seamlessly extending across installation, campaigns, painting, public and commercial art, showcasing his versatility across mediums and has seen Kris collaborating with brands such as Gucci, Adidas, Apple, Honda, Nike, DAZED & NBA.

His work has been exhibited at institutions worldwide, including MAD, The Louvre Paris, V&A Dundee and The Gallery of NSW, Sydney. His work has an instantly recognizable style that is accessible to a broad range while still representing a minority. Notably, Small collaborated with Adidas and released the 2022 Pride collection.
