Event description

Did you know that the fashion industry is responsible for 8–10% of global carbon emissions, which is more than international flights and shipping combined! It is also the second-biggest consumer of water, and is expected to increase water use by 50% by 2030.  The fast fashion industry also produces a lot of waste, which can end up in landfills, on beaches, or in the ocean.

But don't despair! This doesn't mean you can't enjoy clothing and be fashionable.  Clothing Swaps are a fun way to freshen up your wardrobe while not being part of the fast fashion cycle.  So how does it work?  Simple, just bring in 1-5 items of quality clothing that you don't find yourself wearing but are in fantastic condition and really deserve to be enjoyed by someone.  Hand them to one of our volunteer helpers to display.  Then grab yourself a glass of bubbly and help yourself to canapes while you peruse the items other people have brought along to swap.  You can pick up one item for every piece you donate to the swap.  This means that for $10 you get a glass of bubbly, some nice nibbles, make some room in your closet and perhaps find some new wardrobe favourites...and all with a clean conscience!  What a fun way to take climate action! :)

You can also get your Christmas shopping done at the same time at our Christmas Local Art and Handicraft Market!

To organise a Market Stall, email Jessica: projects@mrwl.org.au

Once your stall is approved (preference given to: low waste/recycled, handmade, nature inspired, local) you can book it in by purchasing a market stall ticket.

Please feel free to share this event to your friends and families- the more the merrier!

This climate action event is one of the community event organised under Mooloolah River Landcare's Trees4Resilience
Program. The aim of Trees4Resilience is to help our community take climate action by planting native trees and creating events to raise awareness and help our community reduce carbon output. Trees4Resilience is supported by the Queensland Government's Sustainability Action Grants program-supporting Community Climate Action.
