CLUB COHEN: Nightclub of the Afterlife
Event description
For one night only, The Vault transforms into a nightclub of the afterlife.
The moody late-night groove songs of Leonard Cohen are given new life with a spectral live band fronted by the mellifluous Mikelangelo.
Come sway, swoon and sing along to mark eight years since Cohen was lost to the afterlife backed by a hand-picked group of musicians that Mikelangelo has christened The Band Of Mercy, with a stellar line-up of special guests gracing the stage throughout the evening, including local legends Shortis & Simpson, Fred Smith, Alice Cottee, Tom Woodward and Tracy Bourne, and introducing the wonderful talents of Peter Campbell, Gemma Clare and Lily Acheson.
Featuring classics such as I'm Your Man, You Want It Darker, Tower Of Song and Dance Me To The End of Love, this club-style live show will also include sultry dance floor re-workings of iconic songs like Suzanne, Bird On A Wire, Famous Blue Raincoat, Hallelujah and more - a golden opportunity for Cohen fans to get back on boogie street.
Mikelangelo is celebrated nationally and internationally as a solo artist and with his long-term group, Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen. For 5 years he toured his popular solo show Cave, Waits, Cohen - celebrating the songs of these beloved artists. After Cohen's death, Mikelangelo was invited to curate and lead a celebration his life and songs for Sydney Festival; the performance was an artistic triumph and a sell-out success. Now, deeply comfortable in the embrace of Cohen's poetic legacy, Mikelangelo delivers these songs alongside his band with a natural ease, charisma, and a whole lot of heart.
