Constitutions 101
Overview:Â
Your Club's Constitution (also called the Rules) sets out the most basic legal requirements that your Club and its members must (yes, must) follow. By the end of this module you'll have a good understanding of your own Club's Constitution and you'll understand the process that must be followed when changes are needed. Â

- the purpose and legal status of a ConstitutionÂ
- the structure of every ConstitutionÂ
- explanation of mandatory clauses in every ConstitutionÂ
- examples of optional additional clauses Â
- what to do when the rules are silent or have been breachedÂ
- identifying when your Constitution has problems or needs updatingÂ
- the proper process for fixing, updating or replacing your Constitution.

Meet Kate
Kate started designing and delivering training programs on governance and management for small community organisations in 1997 and is now Clubs SA's Lead Industry Consultant for the Club Development Program. Kate is the author of Just a Tick - A Best Practice Survival Guide for Boards and Committees of Management. Kate describes herself as a Nanny McPhee for Boards and Committees of small not-for-profit organisations who want to achieve better results in less time and with less stress. She does this through the provision of short duration, high impact training programs and workshops and by providing tailored, affordable, practical, hands on help to 'get stuff' done.
