Constitutions 101

Overview: 

Your Club's Constitution (also called the Rules) sets out the most basic legal requirements that your Club and its members must (yes, must) follow. By the end of this module you'll have a good understanding of your own Club's Constitution and you'll understand the process that must be followed when changes are needed.  

Who should attend: 

  • All Board or Committee members 
  • Club Managers 

What we'll cover: 

  • the purpose and legal status of a Constitution 
  • the structure of every Constitution 
  • explanation of mandatory clauses in every Constitution 
  • examples of optional additional clauses  
  • what to do when the rules are silent or have been breached 
  • identifying when your Constitution has problems or needs updating 
  • the proper process for fixing, updating or replacing your Constitution.

  • printable copy of the slide presentation
  • opportunities for participants to ask questions during the workshop or webinar
  • links to useful resources and tools that you can start using immediately
  • information about where to get more help.
  • certificate of attendance

Meet Kate

Kate started designing and delivering training programs on governance and management for small community organisations in 1997 and is now Clubs SA's Lead Industry Consultant for the Club Development Program. Kate is the author of Just a Tick - A Best Practice Survival Guide for Boards and Committees of Management.  Kate describes herself as a Nanny McPhee for Boards and Committees of small not-for-profit organisations who want to achieve better results in less time and with less stress. She does this through the provision of short duration, high impact training programs and workshops and by providing tailored, affordable, practical, hands on help to 'get stuff' done.
