Co-Design Toys - Reimagining the role of workshop materials

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

We are excited to invite members to our first event of 2023!

This community-led event will be a fun chance to learn from and with other practitioners and consider your relationship to workshop materials.

What is the offering?

We know what to do with co-design tools, but how might we account for what the materials themselves are making possible as we discuss, design and imagine? Start the new year by examining your relationship to the materials you use in co-design workshops and chatting with fellow practitioners as we consider a more playful framing of the role of workshop materials.

This online event is an invitation to bring stories (and pictures!) from your own practice and explore a relationship to design ‘tools’ as co-design ‘toys’.

Alli will share a few short case studies and examples from her doctoral research to reframe the role of workshop materials. Then in small groups participants will be invited to engage with this reframing and the implications or opportunities for their own practices.

What is required from participants?

Come prepared with one or two images of materials you’ve used in workshops, that you are happy to share with others and discuss.

Who is this for?

Any CoDesignCo member who wants to explore and expand their toolkit. It is particularly relevant for (co-) design facilitators.

Who is leading this CoDesignCo event?

Kea Member Alli Edwards.

Alli's design practice takes place on unceded Wurundjeri country and strives to challenge the false dichotomy between work and play in order to create different ways of being and learning with and from each other. Her doctoral research investigated the co-facilitation of materials in workshops and explored what possibilities for practice become possible when co-design tools are re-framed as co-design toys, and in her current work with the Centre for Public Impact she continues embracing more playful and relational ways of being together as she holds space for learning partners to re-imagine government.
