If you're a manager, there's a good chance that people bring you problems. Lots of them.
Sometimes that's exactly what you're there for. But when every question, decision and difficulty finds its way back to you, it can become exhausting. It can also unintentionally get in the way of the very thing most managers want to encourage – people who feel confident thinking for themselves, taking responsibility and finding their own way forward.
That's where coaching skills can make a real difference.
Coaching Skills for Managers
Is a practical, accessible introduction to having conversations that encourage people to think, explore and develop their own solutions. We'll look at what coaching actually is, why it can be so useful in everyday management and how a few simple changes to the way we ask, listen and respond can completely change the conversation.
We'll explore:
What coaching is, how it works and when it's useful.
Simple coaching tools you can start using straight away.
Asking questions that encourage thinking rather than simply providing answers.
Listening, curiosity and making space for someone else to work things through.
Developing a coaching style that feels natural to you.
There'll be plenty of opportunity to try things out, think about your own management style and explore how coaching might help with some of the everyday situations you encounter with your team.
You don't need any previous coaching experience and there's no expectation that you'll leave wanting to become a coach. The aim is simply to add another really useful set of skills to your manager toolkit – ones that can make life a little easier for you while helping the people around you grow in confidence and capability.
This is an interactive workshop, so we'll encourage you to have your camera on and join the conversation where you feel comfortable. We'll work together as a whole group and may use smaller breakout conversations to give you an opportunity to practise.
The session won't be recorded, so you can relax, experiment, ask questions and occasionally get things wrong.
That's how we learn.

That managing someone is essentially facilitation of a conversation. Simply showing humanity can get you through any challenging situation and coaching skills are the perfect way to do exactly that.
