Gender inequity within healthcare not only affects us all as a profession, but it also affects our patients.

Importantly, the definition of gender is not simply binary…

Gender equality is a human right, but despite many years of active campaigning there remain many less female researchers in science than men, they produce fewer scientific papers and are less likely to be part of international collaborations. There are many factors that contribute to this inequality bias, organisational culture and differential demands of work and family. This leads to differences in salaries (gender pay gap) and leadership opportunities.

Gender diverse organisations have potential for increased productivity, innovation and creativity with a better understanding of patient populations and further potential for improved outcomes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many of these fragile issues within healthcare which remain barely concealed within our profession. In this first edition of CodaEthics we bring together the best from within our community and from outside to address.
