Coffee, Cake and Theology

Coffee, Cake and Theology is a relaxed morning tea event where you can learn about an element of spiritual practice and theology, meet current students, and hear from recent alumnae.  

For those currently studying with us, this is a chance to learn about aspects of self-care and hear from alumnae about tips that might be helpful in your learning journey. For alumnae, this is a chance to share fellowship with old friends and new. And for those interested in studying, this is an opportunity to hear from current lecturers and students about what it’s like to learn at Mary Andrews College, 

The morning will include plenty of time for you to connect with Mary Andrews College students and staff, a short theology session led by Amy Yeung on “Caring for Ensouled Bodies”, a panel where we'll get to hear from alumnae about their learning experience, and, of course, the aforementioned coffee and cake. 

In her session, Amy Yeung, Head of the Mental Health Institute, will address questions like “Is it selfish to practice self-care?”, “What does theology say about caring for myself?” We know study and life can be stressful, and we want to help you consider what God has to say about caring for yourself during and after your time learning with us. 

Everyone who attends is also welcome to stay on and have a ‘taste test’ of a class, Theological Perspectives on Mental Health, with Jo Charles, at 2pm.  

The event is completely free but please register for catering purposes.

Schedule 

10.30am - Coffee & cake! 

11am – Session on “Caring for Ensouled Bodies” with Amy Yeung, including interview and Q&A. 

11.30am - Panel with alumnae, on their learning experience, and tips about how to make the most of your time studying.  

12pm – Informal time to meet other students and staff. 

2pm - (Optional) Take a ‘taste test’ of a class—Theological Perspectives on Mental Health with Jo Charles.
