About this event:
With an economic contribution of $80 million and the generation of more than 600 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs across the Bendigo region, the thoroughbred racing industry has a significant and far-reaching impact. It serves as a key driver of local employment, supporting not only those directly involved in the racing sector, such as trainers, jockeys, and stable hands, but also a broad range of ancillary services. This includes veterinary care, hospitality, tourism, and retail, all of which benefit from the influx of visitors and ongoing racing events.
The industry also boosts Bendigo's profile as a destination for racing enthusiasts, attracting large crowds during high-profile events such as the Bendigo Cup. These major race days, in turn, generate revenue for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and shops, while also providing opportunities for sponsorships and partnerships with corporate entities.
Beyond the financial impact, the thoroughbred racing industry plays a role in fostering a sense of community pride and cohesion. Events often bring together people from various sectors of society, creating a social and economic ripple effect that strengthens local networks and reinforces Bendigo’s standing as a key regional hub in Victoria’s racing landscape.
