Event description

SMALL SPACES? BIG IDEAS FOR SUSTAINABILITY!

When: Tuesday 3 September, 4-6.30pm
Where: Coffs Harbour Learning Centre (132 Linden Ave, Boambee East NSW 2452)

Limited space? Low on resources and time? No worries! At our Term 3 meeting, we're proving that size doesn't matter when embedding sustainability into education. Be inspired by learning about utilising hydroponics for growing nutritious produce and how to support tiny but mighty native bees through pockets of biodiversity.

Hydroponics in Schools: Coffs Harbour Learning Centre (Host School)

Meet Marg Hope, the passionate Food Tech Teacher at local high school and host Coffs Harbour Learning Centre, for a short tour and deep dive into the world of growing goodies in hydroponic setups, the secret ingredient used for growing produce used in their daily cooking. We’ll take an inspiring stroll through the school gardens, where Marg will share the simple steps to set up hydroponic systems, the best produce matches for each type, and how to perfect the plant-nutrient magic that keeps them flourishing.

What’s the buzz about Native Bees? : Dr Toby Smith, Bee Aware Kids
Join Dr. Toby Smith, a bee whisperer, beekeeper extraordinaire, and all-around bee expert for an informative and inspiring workshop. Get ready to dive into the buzzing world of native bees as he spills the secrets of their fascinating lives and how schools can make a meaningful impact on local biodiversity. Peek inside a stingless bee hive to witness their mesmerizing patterns, and take home your very own bee-inspired craft from upcycled materials for your school or center.

Local initiatives, events and story sharing
The workshop and discussion will be followed by a meeting to connect with other local educators and hear about sustainability initiatives in the region.

Warm drinks and delicious afternoon tea will be provided.

The Sustainable Schools Network (SSN) is a collaborative partnership between Midwaste, the City of Coffs Harbour and Sustainable Schools NSW.

Sustainable Schools Network meetings are an excellent opportunity to connect with other educators passionate about sustainability. We meet once a term to share inspiring initiatives and how local educators are implementing them. To stay informed about upcoming events, register for the Coffs Harbour Sustainable Schools Network mailing list by contacting coordinator.chcc@sustainableschoolsnsw.org.au
