Event description

What is Cognitive Stimulation Therapy?

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is an evidence-based psychosocial group program for people with mild to moderate dementia. It consists of 14 or more sessions of themed activities designed to stimulate cognition and maximise the potential of the person with dementia. CST aims to engage people in a relaxed group setting.

CST has been shown through numerous research studies to produce improvements in cognition, communication, and quality of life for people living with dementia.

What does the training involve?

The training involves interactive activities, group exercises, role-play, and video observation as well as learning about the theoretical basis for CST. It is aimed to equip people with the knowledge required to deliver group CST in their work setting.

Who is the trainer?

The training is led by Isobel Sanger, an Occupational Therapist and Team Leader who works with people with dementia in the Northern Metropolitan Melbourne area. Isobel has experience setting up and delivering CST groups and has trained more than 100 facilitators around Australia. She is currently involved in conducting a research project incorporating CST and is a member of the Australian CST working group.
