Cognitive Stimulation Therapy for Dementia - Educational Session
Event description
In the news and in social media, there is a big focus on finding a cure and drug treatments for dementia. In contrast, less attention is paid to what can be done when a person has dementia, in order to improve their quality of life and maximise their cognitive functioning for as long as possible. Given the 433,000 people living with dementia in Australia, supporting and enabling them to live their best lives is an urgent priority.
This educational session will be delivered by Aimee Spector, Professor of Clinical Psychology of Ageing at University College London (UCL). Professor Spector is a Distinguished Visitor at the University of Canberra in November 2025.
This event is free, and open to anyone interested in learning about dementia and non-drug therapies. Bookings are required. The session will be held in Theatre 1A21 at the University of Canberra, Bruce ACT.
The session will cover:
What is dementia, what is Alzheimer’s and how do they differ? What other types of dementia are there?
What are the main treatments for dementia?
What is CST and how does it work?
How can CST be accessed within Australia?
