Event description

Long-term photographer and short-term author, Colin Whelan spent parts of his childhood in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney. A hitch-hiking trip from Sydney to Perth and back when he was 13 imbued him with a life-long love of the road and of the outback. After graduating from university he hitch-hiked through Europe, the Middle East and north Africa before returning to Australia, setting up a sports photography agency.  He soon became the Official Photographer to both the NRL and ARU.

His images have appeared in scores of books and countless magazines but whilst working he continued to have regular trips to the bush and outback, only now on one of his motorcycles. He soon developed a love for country pubs and their people and in 2018, his first authored book, Pub Yarns was published. It quickly sold out both its editions. In 2021 this was followed-up by Drinking in the Rivers Vol 1: the pubs and people of the Murray and Edward Rivers. His body is now based at Jervis Bay, though his mind is usually elsewhere.

Author reading will be followed by an Open Mic where all a welcome to share new original work.
