Moderated by Professor Ian Meredith AM and hosted by the Victorian Connected Health Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (CHICC), this session will highlight innovative collaboration approaches between health and medtech sectors, delve into key success factors to strengthen local medtech manufacturing, and discuss strategies for overcoming challenges in health procurement.

Through data-driven insights on forward demand trends, AMMC partner Monash Health, will explore how innovators can align their products for market need and procurement success. Safer Care Victoria will discuss the value of clinician-led innovation through partnership to address critical health challenges. You’ll also hear firsthand experiences from local medtech innovators who are navigating the complexities of the manufacturing and procurement landscape.

[Moderator] Professor Ian Meredith AM, Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow, Monash University 

Ian is currently a Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow at Monash University and a Non-Executive Director on boards of Australian and US medtech companies.
Previously, the Executive Vice President and Global Chief Medical Officer at Boston Scientific Corporation, in the US, Ian led clinical innovation, pre-clinical science and medical affairs across the global organisation and provided executive leadership of the company’s clinical strategy. He has also served as the Professor and Director of MonashHeart, at Monash Health. During his career spanning more than 30 years as an Australian practising clinician, interventional cardiologist, clinical trialist and global key opinion leader, Ian has mentored emerging leaders and performed more than 20,000 invasive cardiac and coronary procedures.
Ian has significant board experience as a Member and Medical Vice-President on the Heart Foundation of Australia’s National and Victorian Boards and National Member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Board. He has served the Australian Government on the Department of Human Services Cardiac Services Review and Department of Health and Ageing Cardiac Prostheses Advisory Group; the Victorian Government as their North American Medtech Business Ambassador and, more recently, as Executive Advisor to the Australian Medtech Manufacturing Centre.
In 2012, Ian received an Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division for outstanding service to medicine in the field of cardiology as a clinician and researcher, and for advisory roles with a range of public health organisations. He also received a Doctor of Laws honoris causa for outstanding service to Monash University.

Shelley Jackson, Director, Australian Medtech Manufacturing Centre, Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions

Shelley Jackson is the Director of the Health Technology Policy Team and the Australian Medtech Manufacturing Centre (AMMC) with the Victorian Government. Her team lead policy and programs to support the growth of medtech manufacturing in the state and to grow local content in health procurement.
AMMC has partnered with health and industry partners to deliver support for medtech manufacturing in Victoria, including the Medtech Manufacturing Growth Program, the Victorian Medtech Skills and Devices Hub and partnerships with Monash Health, Safer Care Victoria, ICN and other ecosystem leaders to grow connectivity and collaboration between clinicians, health innovators and medtech manufacturing businesses.

Neil Sigamoney, Director, Engineering and Corporate Services and Chief Procurement Officer, Monash Health 

Neil is a commercially driven leader with diverse experience in the private and public sector working with large global brands in Automotive, FMCG, Higher Education and Health Care, where he has successfully led many innovative and collaborative challenges, pushing boundaries and delivering sustainable organisational outcomes.
He serves on the board of several NFP's, is previous Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee for a large NFP, and serves on the Procurement and Supply Chain Committee at HealthShare Victoria.
He currently leads Engineering Services, Clinical Engineering, Asset Management, Procurement and Supply Chain for the largest Health Service in Victoria, and led the State Supply Chain supporting all public Health hospitals in Victoria during the pandemic.

Veronica Hope, Acting Manager, Innovation | Improvement Branch, Safer Care Victoria 

Veronica is a Physiotherapist who has worked clinically for over ten years in Melbourne and London, recently focusing on the care of older people, rehabilitation, and falls prevention.
She joined Safer Care Victoria as a Clinical Fellow in 2021 and completed Improvement Advisor training in 2024. She has worked on several large improvement projects including Creating Age-Friendly Health Systems, Improving Childhood Asthma Management, and the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Acute Care Collaborative in partnership with the Lung Foundation Australia.
She has presented work at the European Falls Festival in Manchester, the International Forum on Safety and Quality in Healthcare, and the Public Sector Residential Aged Care Forum, both in Melbourne.
She is currently Acting Manager of the Innovation team and is passionate about co-designing innovative solutions to complex healthcare problems with clinicians and consumers, and supporting teams to utilise innovation and improvement methodology to improve care.

Ewan Dowie, Chief Executive Officer, Dowson

Ewan's background spans a range of sectors. He commenced his career in healthcare before transitioning to engineering and then into pharmaceutical management. Ewan currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Dowson.
Dowson is a specialty manufacturer and assembler of metered dose pumps and medical devices. It uses the latest technologies and materials to deliver its customers the highest levels of quality and service.
Dowson's purpose is to create a better local society through innovative advanced manufacturing solutions that positively impact people and the planet.
Dowson strives to conduct itself with integrity and respect. It seeks to collaborate and co-create products and services as it puts customers and employees first.

Dr Jane Oppenheim, Scientific and Operations Director, Ego Pharmaceuticals

Dr. Jane Oppenheim is an accomplished Executive Director with 30 years of manufacturing leadership. Her expertise lies in driving sustainable growth, fueled by her passion for evidence-based quality skincare products manufactured locally in Melbourne.
As the Scientific and Operations Director at Ego Pharmaceuticals, she leads a team of approximately 300 staff across diverse functions including Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations and Logistics serving a growing global market.
Dr. Oppenheim's influence extends beyond Ego Pharmaceuticals, as she also holds the position of Chairman of the Board at Dowson Pty. Ltd., an innovative Australian lotion pump manufacturing and assembly company founded in 2022.
Dr. Oppenheim was awarded the prestigious Clunies Ross Entrepreneur of the Year in 2019 by the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering for her outstanding contributions to the field.
