Secret Cacao Garden: Collage & Cacao Crafternoon Delight
Event description
Learn the magical art of collaging with local artist Elizabeth Tuten.
The miracle of collage is it’s freedom and accessibility! Find a flow state of creative expansion by allowing your eye to rove a treasure trove of vintage and rare paper materials, pausing to cut out images that delight you. Your art piece will appear magically yet all together organically as you go deeper into the experience of free-association image curation, playing with shape, color, pattern and texture to create a totally one-of-a-kind energetic expression. We’ll provide paper materials, scissors, and glue sticks, but feel free to bring any magazine, art books, or interesting tid-bits you have laying around. Elizabeth will give some instruction and show examples, but this time is an opportunity to delve into your own creational capacity—you might just surprise yourself with what your untethered mind-eye-spirit creates.
We will consume cacao intentionally as we create, activating our creativity and bliss and letting our inner child play. Cacao is sourced ethically and direct trade from award winning indigenous cacao farmers in Peru, roasted and stone ground at Eaton House by cacao artisan Christina Kim.
Elizabeth Tuten is a DC-based visual artist, event curator, and writer. Elizabeth always knew she was an artist, but it wasn’t until she discovered college in 2019 (thanks to a DC Design Week talk hosted by her now dear friend, Ray Orr) that she found her medium. Elizabeth is passionate about introducing people to collage, especially those who claim to not be creative.
