COLLARTS | WINTER Workshop Series

These Winter Holidays, we're opening our doors to Victorian High School students currently in years 10, 11 and 12, to participate in a series of practical, hands-on workshops!

Come and experience what it's like to live a day in the life of a Collarts student. We have 15 workshops to choose from across 2 days! See our full list of workshops below!

* Please note, this is only open to High School students currently in years 10, 11 or 12 in 2024
** Lunch will be provided for full-day workshops and snacks will be provided for half-day workshops
*** Please note, some workshops require a minimum number of attendees to run successfully. We will notify you 5 days in advance if this workshop will not proceed.


SATURDAY 6TH JULY 2024


FASHION DESIGN | FABRIC ACCESSORY WORKSHOP
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
George St Campus | 2/156 George St, Fitzroy
Join the COLLARTS Fashion Design team to make a fun embroidered fabric headband, pin & necklace.  All equipment is provided, but bring along any charms or beads you want to add.  Embroidery is easy to pick up and hard to put down; once you master the basics, the design options are endless. The only limit is your creativity. This workshop is for beginners and will familiarise you with hoops, needles, and embroidery stitches. You'll create gorgeous embroidery art using your own designs and leave with a great fashion accessory and the confidence to sew up a storm!



FASHION MARKETING | CRAFT A FASHION STYLING & SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

In this hands-on creative Fashion Marketing workshop students will develop a social media content campaign for a fashion brand. They will learn the art of flat lay photography and composition and lighting. Using the flat lay images they have created; students will then learn how to use Canva to design branded social media content and create a social media fashion campaign.




PERFORMING ARTS | MONOLOGUE PERFORMANCE PREPARATION
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

In this workshop, Dr Jane Montgomery Griffiths, acclaimed actor and Head of Performing Arts at Collarts, will take you through tips and techniques for performing monologues. This workshop is ideal for anyone preparing for auditions or VCE solo pieces. Please come with a monologue you’d like to work on and be prepared to have a fun & instructive introduction to solo performance.

PHOTOGRAPHY | PHOTOWALK DISCOVERY

Join us as we reimagine the ordinary, by embarking on a visual adventure around Collingwood. In this fun workshop we will explore how composition, subject, colour, design and lighting can combine to create interesting narratives and inspiring photography. With an eye for abstracting elements, you will sharpen your camera and lighting skills while exercising your creative minds. Get ready to unlock your curiosity and see the world with fresh eyes! 



GRAPHIC & DIGITAL DESIGN | DESIGNING DISPLAY TYPE
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Join us in this engaging workshop where students explore the art of crafting display type manually and transitioning it into digital formats. With the ever-evolving landscape of digital technologies and the influence of AI on design culture, there's a rising fascination with handcrafted design, yielding authentic and humanistic results. Discover the timeless charm of hand-created designs and their unique place in today's design world.




2D ANIMATION | THE POWER OF GRAPHIC STORIES
Full-day - 9:30am - 4:30pm
Cromwell St Campus | 67-69 Cromwell St, Collingwood
This workshop unleashes the power of graphic storytelling, celebrating new ways of seeing, learning, and communicating. After establishing some basic terminology and the mechanics which move visual stories, participants will undertake a series of exercises to find their own visual narrative voice. Reflecting on everyday experiences, discover the magic in the mundane and find stories where you didn't see them before. Enjoy seeing yourself come to life in this truly unique medium.

INTERIOR DESIGN | VR DESIGN UNLEASHED
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm

Explore the unique world of Virtual Reality design. Equipped with VR headsets and harnessing the power of industry leading software like Twinmotion, you will unlock the secrets of photorealistic virtual staging used in Interior Design. Through hands on experience in creative sandboxes, you will design your own elements within virtual interior spaces. Join us to transform ideas into virtual realities and view them in VR.




SCREEN & MEDIA | 
FOLEY SOUND FOR FILM
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Cromwell St Campus | 67-69 Cromwell St, Collingwood
Foley effects are a key component in film sound. In this workshop we will be recording sound effects live and to picture in the studio. This process generally involves a recordist using an audio workstation and a foley artist (or walker!) watching the film while reproducing the action using a variety of props.

MUSIC PERFORMANCE | INSTRUMENTAL WORKSHOP
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
The instrumental Workshop will provide an opportunity for attendees to actively participate in a small ensemble guided by industry professionals. The performance activities will focus on mastering fundamental rhythm section techniques, the art of improvisation, motivic development, using dynamics as well as understanding common musical styles, forms and structures.


MUSIC PERFORMANCE | VOCAL WORKSHOP
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
Come and explore your singing voice in a supportive and fun vocal workshop learning the basics of vocalising. We will uncover the mechanics of singing, harmony singing, have alumni/staff performances, and the opportunity to perform and be given professional feedback within the workshop.


MUSIC PERFORMANCE | SONGWRITING WORKSHOP
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
Exclusive song writing Workshop with Tim Wild (TAXIRIDE) where you will look at some of the lyric and musical techniques to write a song. You will collaborate and try some different instruments to create your own composition.


SUNDAY 7TH JULY 2024


AUDIO ENGINEERING | PRO-RECORDING WORKSHOP
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood

Students will get hands-on in our state-of-the-art recording studios at our Collingwood HQ campus. In this immersive workshop, students will learn to record drums, bass, guitar and vocals for a modern song then take the files with you to mix at home.


MUSIC PRODUCTION | ARRANGING AND SEQUENCING IN ABLETON
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
This workshop will introduce students to the many arrangement and sequencing tools available in Ableton. The workshop is aimed at those who may have little to no experience with music theory, showing how we can use MIDI devices in Ableton to write and arrange musically correct productions in the electronic music space.

ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT | MARKETING AN ARTIST
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
This Entertainment Management focused workshop will teach students how artists can market their products and how audiences find and connect with them. Participants will receive an introductory overview of key marketing strategies to build an audience and develop creative solutions for releasing creative products.


EVENT MANAGEMENT | EVENT EXPERIENCE DESIGN
Half-day - 12:30pm - 4:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
This Event Management focused workshop will guide attendees through the essential elements of designing memorable and engaging event experiences. This interactive session encourages creativity and practical skills in crafting unique event atmospheres, participants will receive an introductory overview of the key principles of event design.
