A virtual follow-up to the Collections Policy Info Session for those looking for support and a deeper understanding of developing their own policy.
This workshop develops the skills and knowledge learned in the first session to expand attendees’ understanding of Collection Policies and how to apply them to their own collections.
Presentation: The principles, policies, procedures, and practicalities involved in managing collections systematically and accountably. We will take a deep dive into developing a Collections Policy that guides your organisation's goals and engagement.
Practical: Review, refine or write your own Collections Management Policy.
On completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe the components of a museum documentation system, including mission, policies & procedures.
Describe the relevant documentation and record creation associated with collections management.
Evaluate your organisation's Collections Policy and identify areas for development and/or review.
Identify tools and resources to assist with high-standard collections management.
What to have to hand:
Your Collections Policy if you have one.
Any policy or procedures manuals that support your Collections Policy.
Your organisation's mission statement, strategic plan, forward plan or any similar document.
Questions and an open mind.
