Event description

In this hands-on workshop we will dive into the world of colour theory and colour mixing.  Using practical exercises and watercolour paint, will learn simple techniques that will allow you to feel confident to mix any colour you want, using a limited palette.

Together, we’ll cover:

  • Primary, secondary, and tertiary colours.
  • How to identify cool and warm versions of each primary colour.
  • How to create a colour wheel for painting reference.
  • The most versatile triad for colour mixing.
  • The split-primary palette and how to use it.
  • How to mix the brightest colours.
  • How to mix muted colours.
  • How to mix useful neutrals.
  • Colour matching with real subjects.
  • Getting to know your own palette and what it can do!

What to bring:

I will provide all the materials you need for this workshop but if you already have a watercolour set bring it along. Using your own watercolour set will help you gain confidence with the colours you will be using at home.

What you will take home:

  • A colour wheel that you can use for future reference.
  • A paint dot card with a cool and warm version of each primary colour.
  • Your colour practice sheets.
  • A printed cheat-sheet covering everything we learned.

Who is this class for?

This class is perfect for artists, nature journalers, and creative individuals of all levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to grasp the basics or an experienced creator wanting to refine your colour-mixing skills, you will leave this workshop with a strong grasp of colour theory and the confidence to mix bright and muted colours using a limited palette.
