Price $180 AUD + BF Get tickets

Event description

Gather with us this winter for a warm afternoon of learning to cook some of our favorite Vietnamese homestyle dishes and sit down to share a family meal together, ending with a sweet treat.

Vietnamese homestyle family meals embody the ancestral care and love of collectively sharing a bountiful seasonal array of dishes and stories together with friends and family. Cơm Nhà is an abundant spread of communally shared dishes that typically includes Cơm (rice), Món mặn (main protein), Rau (fresh vegetables), Canh (soup), Chè (sweet soup) and other small accompanying dishes.

For our first workshop these are the dishes we will be learning how to cook together:

  • Bánh Bột Lọc (Tapioca Dumplings)
  • Gà Kho Gừng (Ginger Braised chicken )
  • Cá Chiên Nước Mắm Gừng (Fried fish with ginger fish sauce)
  • Canh Bầu Tôm (Gourd soup with prawns)
  • Rau Muống Xào Tỏi (Garlic fried morning glory)
  • Chè Bắp (Vietnamese sweet corn dessert)

All dishes halal, gluten and peanut free. Unfortunately due to the nature of this workshop, we cannot cater to any other dietary requirements.

Facilitators:

Ngọc Trần (she/her) is a second generation Vietnamese chef cooking on Wurundjeri country. Inspired by the accumulated knowledge of her kin, cooking allows her to connect with both lineage and community. Currently, she is learning how to rest and set boundaries in an industry that often prioritizes grind culture.

Hiếu
Phùng (he/him) is that shop kid who you sometimes see napping, eating leftover food and slinging desserts at Shop Bao Ngoc. He is a healing-centred facilitator and writer who is currently daydreaming of the ways our mouths are an ancestral archive and portal towards collective healing and resistance. He is also obsessed with tofu pudding and going for late night bike rides.

Please note, this workshop has a limited capacity of 10 people to ensure an intimate atmosphere. Snacks and tea will be provided.

Come join us and be immersed in ancestral recipes and stories of communal care and reciprocity with new and old friends.
