    Event description

COME OUT for a fun, friendly, and educational hike in Joshua Tree National Park with Joshua Tree National Park Association staff.

This is a leisurely activity - less than 2 miles with little to no elevation gain, shade and seating may be available.

We will hike along the Hi-View Trail loop and learn about the plants and animals that are native to the park. The hike is fairly easy, only 1.3 miles long, with a 400 ft elevation gain and a panoramic view from the top. Desert Institute staff naturalist Jon Norris will share his knowledge and stories from the park. After the hike, we will gather at the Yucca Valley visitor center for a mixer to get to know local folx and new friends from the surrounding communities.

This event is very Queer friendly; all friends of Dorothy are invited! The event is FREE! Attendees are welcome to donate to Joshua Tree National Park.

All required items participants need to bring for your course: water, food, and snacks, easily packed and eaten in the field (please leave no trace); close-toed athletic shoes or hiking boots; no sandals, not even hiking sandals; sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen; light-colored long-sleeved shirts are recommended and very effective on hot days, daypack to carry food, water, and any personal items you need for the day. Any other pertinent information: Hi-View Hike 4:00 - 5:00 PM (1.3 Miles), LGBTQ+ Mixer 6:00 - 7:00 PM (Yucca Valley).

Please note: There is no cell service in the park! Please allow ample time to arrive at the meeting location; park entrances may be very busy on weekends (see FAQs).
