What happens when we put down our phones, sit down with people we might not normally meet, share a meal and actually talk?

Welcome to The Common Table.

The Common Table is a new Northern Rivers dining and conversation experience created to bring people together over good food, thoughtful questions and the kind of conversations that seem to happen far less often than they used to.

For our very first event, we’re proud to be partnering with Saltbush Bar & Grill, who will host us for an evening built around one of the most universal ideas there is: A Place to Call Home.

What makes somewhere feel like home?

Is it a house, a town, a landscape, a person, a memory or simply somewhere we feel we belong?

And what happens when finding — or affording — a place to call home becomes harder?

Over dinner, you’ll join a small table of people and work your way through a series of carefully designed conversation cards. Some are light.

Some are reflective. Some might take you somewhere you weren’t expecting.

There are no right answers, and this isn’t a debate.

You don’t need to be an expert on anything. You don’t need to arrive with a prepared opinion. And you certainly don’t need to agree with everyone at your table.

You just need to come curious.

Why The Common Table?

The idea grew out of the friendship between Kiri and Josh.

Like most good friendships, ours has been built through long conversations, laughter, different perspectives, the occasional disagreement and a willingness to keep listening even when we often don’t see something the same way.

We started wondering why those conversations — curious, respectful, funny, sometimes challenging and genuinely human — have become so difficult to find outside our existing circles.

So we decided to build a table for them.

The Common Table is our attempt to create more opportunities for people to meet beyond their usual social bubbles, hear stories they might never otherwise hear and rediscover the simple pleasure of talking with someone without needing to win.

What to expect

Expect great food, warm hospitality and real conversation.

We’ll guide the evening, introduce the theme and give you everything you need to get started. The conversation happens around the table, supported by our Common Table question cards and a few simple table manners: listen deeply, stay curious, make room for others and disagree without being disagreeable.

You may arrive with friends, with a partner or entirely on your own.

In fact, coming alone is very much encouraged.

This isn’t networking.
It isn’t speed dating.
It isn’t a seminar.
And it definitely isn’t a political forum.

We leave politics at the door and invite good vibes in.
