Community Book Discussion on "Lifehouse: Taking Care of Ourselves in a World on Fire" by Adam Greenfield
Event description
Join us for a Community Book Discussion on "Lifehouse: Taking Care of Ourselves in a World on Fire" by Adam Greenfield co-hosted by What Can I Do? Australia.
"When things go awry, whether it be a pandemic, cyclone, flood or bushfire, we can often no longer rely on the state and the usual systems and structure to provide for our needs. For many in these situations the greatest relief often comes from mutual aid groups that have sprung up and can fill those sometimes lifesaving gaps."
In light of the unfolding climate breakdown and threats of the polycrisis, Adam Greenfield explores the role of mutual aid groups as a possible solution to how we can best care for ourselves in the years to come. In Lifehouse Greenfield asks what might happen if the tactics and networks of care that spring up in response to these times might be brought together in a single, coherent way of life?
This community based book discussion will explore the many questions raised by the book about how we can take care of ourselves in the future, mutual aid and responding to climate breakdown at a community level.
There are 3 copies at Inner West Libraries – located at Marrickville, Leichhardt and Ashfield.
