Community Building Block - Acting Responsively to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Join us for an engaging online session with Moko Morris and Gwyn John, as they share their rich experiences walking alongside communities as Tiriti activists, educators and leaders. Facilitated by Anna Parker, this community building block will explore how we can actively embed our responsiveness to Te Tiriti o Waitangi within our communities.

Moko Morris lives in Otaki and has whakapapa to Te Tairawhiti, Te Aitanga a Mahaki, and Te Atiawa, She is a community advisor at  Wellington City Council, and Pou Maori for Kore Hiakai Zero Hunger Collective.  She managed Te Puna Oranga o Otaki during Covid, focusing on community resources and programmes that respond to community needs with sustainability and respect. Moko is also a co-author of The People’s Report, an alternative report on the SDGs emphasising partnership and Te Tiriti-led pathways. Her work champions food sovereignty and the activation of kotahitanga and rangatiratanga — the collective strength of communities working together.

Gwyn John’s passion for social justice and community development drives her mahi. With nearly 30 years of experience in the community sector, Gwyn has worked across local government, community organisations, tertiary education, and volunteer sectors. She is dedicated to designing a better future for people and the planet through her work. Gwyn is committed to learning, finding innovative solutions, and challenging injustices and outdated structures that hinder community well-being.

Together, Moko and Gwyn will share insights, stories, and practical approaches to strengthen our collective response to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
