Event description

"Community Canines" Initiative Launches to Tackle Dog Bites, Boost Responsible Ownership & Unite PAE Community

Adelaide, SA – 22nd -31st October 2025

A ground breaking new program, "Community Canines: Learning, Caring, and Connecting Through Pets," is set to transform responsible dog ownership in the Port Adelaide Enfield (PAE) area—and the Adelaide Sportdog Club is leading the charge.

With dog-related incidents on the rise, this innovative initiative aims to prevent bites, reduce lost pets, and foster a safer, more connected community through hands-on workshops, expert-led training, and community events. From dog first aid and stress-free grooming to decoding canine behaviour, the program equips owners with vital skills while promoting mental wellbeing for both pets and people.

Each Session (Wednesday & Fridays) will be broken into three specific dog groups for the best possible training outcomes for you and your dog together with grooming or 1st Aid class and must know information for your dog.

Below are the specific groups. Please read and note the conditions of training.    

 

Group A.

Puppy’s from 4months – 1yr

This group is for young dogs with little or no training. This is not a puppy school course.

 

Entry to this group class:

 Must provide proof of up-to-date vaccination. (Pet log book, certificate or blood test results). No proof - NO TRAINING.

 ·         Under no circumstances “bring your dog if it (or is about to come) in to season or if it ill.

·         Flat collar and 1.5m (min) leash required.

·         Handlers must wear strong none slip footwear and trousers. 

·         Bring your dog’s favourite treats and or toy (example: ball on rope or tug-toy).

 

 Group B.

Is for dogs 1yr -2yrs

 This group class is for younger dogs with possibly a little or no training.

 

Entry to this group class:

Must provide proof of up-to-date vaccination. (Pet log book, certificate or blood test results). No proof - NO TRAINING.

 ·         Under no circumstances “bring your dog if it (or is about to come) in to season or if it ill.

·         Flat collar and 1.5m (min) leash. Note #No prong collars, slip collars or electronic devices.

·         Handlers must wear strong none slip footwear and trousers. 

·         Bring your dog’s favourite treats and or toy (example: ball on rope or tug-toy).

 

Group C.

This group class is for dogs 2yrs and older

 This group is for older dogs and medium to larger breed, that may or may not have had training. Be clear in the questionnaire has to what training you have undertaken with your dog if any.

 

Entry to this group class:

 Must provide proof of up-to-date vaccination. (Pet log book, certificate or blood test results). No proof - NO TRAINING.

 ·         Under no circumstances “bring your dog if it (or is about to come) in to season or if it ill.

·         Handlers must wear strong none slip footwear and trousers.
