Community Collab: Telling Our Stories and History
Event description
In preparation for AGA's 20th Anniversary Gala, we're giving our community the opportunity to get creative and tell your stories about your connection to AGA and your journey as a TGDI+ person in the ACT, to display at the Community Art Exhibition on the night. You could create a visual art piece, write a story or poem, tell us your story to transcribe, or come up with something else entirely! This exhibition is to platform you and your narratives!
To give you some inspiration for the exhibition, we have invited some LGBTIQA+ artists and authors to come and talk about how they translate their experience into their work.
So come along to meet local artists and start brainstorming ideas for what you would like to present for the exhibition!
Learn about the artists you will meet on the day:
Juno - Hi! My name is Juno (she/her). I’m 27 and I'm a multi-disciplinary artist with a focus in tattooing, I have been tattooing for 6 years now. I have loved art my whole life and I’m very privileged that I get to do it everyday! As a queer trans woman, I aim to provide a safe, comfy and affirming space for people who may feel anxious in a traditional tattoo shop. Queer/trans folk, POC, women etc; are all welcome to get tattooed by me and know they’ll be treated with kindness and respect!
Alistair (they/he/she) is a Wiradjuri visual artist, writer, and academic. Their work explores joy and belonging within Indigenous trans and queer lives through storytelling, and their art deconstructs Blak Queer Joy and Rage! They were awarded the 2023 E.G. Harvey Award for Australian SF Art, their short story, Our Time Our Home, is featured in An Unexpected Party by Fremantle Press, and they are currently a PhD Candidate at the Australian National University for Blak Queer storytelling.
