Community Development QLD online seminar: Weaving Community Development into Everyday Practice
Event description
Join us in an honest conversation with two practitioners who are carving out their own path in community development—despite the challenges. From their early beginnings with the Salvos as case managers to their current roles as CD workers, they will share how they integrate CD principles into their work, proving that meaningful change is possible no matter where you start. Through four real-world practice stories—ranging from youth-led peer support and participatory homelessness projects to workforce transformation and community grief responses—they will explore the barriers and breakthroughs of community-driven work, even in a service-delivery context. With interactive breakout discussions, this session is designed to spark new ideas, challenge assumptions, and remind you that you, too, can do this work!

Milly and Jocelyn, who studied together at the University of Queensland, now job-share a Community Development role with the Salvation Army Homelessness Services. Jocelyn has worked part-time across children and youth services, and more recently within a neighbourhood centre, while Milly is completing a master’s in museum studies. Both are passionate about making Community Development more than a buzzword, integrating it into their personal and professional lives.
With experience in crisis-driven environments, they are dedicated to advocating for developmental approaches in contexts where service delivery often dominates.
