Community Dialogue: What's the Point of Showing Up?

When's the last time you spoke up about something and felt like it landed? For a lot of people the honest answer is a while, or never, or I quit trying.

People arrive at that from opposite directions. Some think the money decides. Some think Olympia decides. Some think it was settled by a few people who already knew each other. The suspicion turns out to be common ground even when the explanation isn't.

What the evening looks like
Everyone sits together, without a podium, no panel, and no head table.

About ninety minutes. Early on, everyone gets one sentence — the last time you tried to be heard about something, and what happened. After that, you talk if you want to.

You can pass. You can come and just listen. Plenty of people do.

You don't need to know anything going in, and you don't need a position.

A few things this isn't
Not a debate. Nobody's keeping score.
Not a campaign event. The names on the congressional ballot are off the table for the evening.
Not a workshop. Nothing to practice, nothing to take home.

Whether you feel curious, concerned, hopeful, skeptical, or simply unsure, you are welcome.

This a space for slowing down. Practicing listening past positions, staying grounded in our bodies, and letting inquiry do its gentle work. You don’t need the “right take.” Just a willingness to be honest, curious, and human.
