Description

Whether you’re a garden lover, bug lover or just someone who’s keen to meet their neighbours – you’re very welcome to join us!

We’re a mixed ability friendly group from teenagers to retirees who help look after the grounds at the old Sanderstead library. From sweeping and weeding the paths and steps to creating and planting new flowerbeds and everything in between.

We’re maintaining the front garden in its more formal glory and slowly developing a fun community garden space at the back which will include dens, play space, bug hotels, vegetable patches, a wildlife pond and more!

All hands welcome ☺ Please bring tools if you have them!

Practical Details:

Our building and grounds are not (yet) fully accessible, there are steps up and/or down to the toilets which are not suitable for wheelchair users or those who need assistance.

A Creative Health and Wellbeing Hub at the former Sanderstead library building.

The Story Sanctuary is our new community space — a warm, creative place where people can come together to share stories, make things, move, sing, and connect. We believe stories, in all their forms, help us understand each other — and that being creative helps us stay well.

We’re building it with local people: art and crafts, gardening and yoga, gentle social gatherings, and moments of calm. Whether you love words, pictures, music, or simply good company, there’s space for you here. The Story Sanctuary will grow into a welcoming spot for everyone — including our neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ communities — a kind, creative place where everyone can feel at ease.
