Event description

Formally Happy Hours and Potlucks, these gatherings are dedicated to gathering our community around good food, conversation, and art. Please stop by for a bite and chat with our community and spotlight artist: Ann Kaneko.

Ann Kaneko, 18th Street California Creative Corps Fellowship recipient, talks about her work in the Inland Empire and how nature is being traded for warehouses. She will be joined by collective song workshop leader Josué Múñoz and will show four short films from her work in the I.E. working with the Concerned Neighbors of Bloomington, People's Collective for Environmental Justice, San Bernardino Airport Communities, Huerta del Valle and the Inland Valley Advocates for the Environment.

Ann Kaneko is known for her personal films that weave her intimate aesthetic with the complex intricacies of political reality. An Emmy Award winner, her poetic feature  Manzanar, Diverted: When Water Becomes Dust premiered at the 2021 Big Sky Film Festival and broadcast on PBS POV’s 2022 line up. She is currently in development on 45/45, a personal film about the beginning and end of life. She has screened internationally and been commissioned by the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Endowment and the Skirball Cultural Center.
