Community Information Session on Protection Visas (Online)
Event description
As a valued and respected member of the multicultural community, we invite you to attend a community information session outlining what the Australian Government is doing to stop the exploitation of Protection visas (subclass 866).
Protection visas are for asylum seekers (or their family members) who face a real risk of significant harm or a real chance of persecution if they return to their home country - they are not for people who just want to stay in Australia to work. The Australian Government is taking action to stop people exploiting Australia’s Protection visa system while ensuring those who need asylum are quickly granted protection.
This includes spreading awareness about:
- The consequences of submitting false or misleading information in a Protection visa application.
- The risks of seeking immigration assistance from someone who is not a registered migration agent or Australian legal practitioner.
- Free legal advice for people thinking about applying for a Protection visa.
This event is supported by community organisations.
Resources are available in various languages to support the dissemination of key messages about Protection visas, including information you can share with friends, family and others in your community. A senior representative from the Department of Home Affairs will be present to speak about the changes to Protection visas and the resources that will be made available to you. This is led by multicultural community leaders.
This is a free event.
