Community is Hard and So Am I 🍆
Event description
Building community is messy, tender, and often hard—emotionally, structurally, and sometimes dramatically so. This workshop series is for anyone who’s ever tried to love their people well, stumbled through hard conversations, or tried to repair what felt broken. And it’s especially for those navigating intimacy, identity, and care in contexts where the stakes feel high—whether that’s in collectives, relationships, organizing spaces, the spicy world of sex work, or performance art production.
Over four sessions, we’ll dig into the practical and emotional skills needed to sustain liberatory relationships and communities. These workshops will build on each other.
You'll be able to register for individual workshops, or bundle and save on 2 or more!
Here is the series breakdown:
Workshop 1: Boundaries & Negotiation (June 13, 6–7:30pm)
Learn how to articulate your needs and limits with clarity and care—without shame or shutdown. We’ll practice setting and receiving boundaries, and negotiating dynamics that honor everyone's autonomy.Workshop 2: Conflict & Communication (June 30, 2–3:30pm)
Conflict doesn’t have to be a crisis. This session dives into the tools of transformative communication, so we can move through tension with dignity and maybe even connection.Workshop 3: Navigating Racialized Power Dynamics (July 11, 4–5:30pm)
What happens when race and power shape how we show up? We’ll look at how racialized dynamics surface in relationships and communities, and explore tools for accountability and repair.Workshop 4: Reparative Community Building for Spicy Workers (July 23, 6–7:30pm)
Especially for burlesquers, sex workers, and those in adjacent economies, this workshop offers space to name harm, imagine healing, and build strategies for mutual support and transformative care.
The content will build on itself, so attendees will get the most out of a full series experience.
Whether you're a community organizer, a spicy worker, or just someone trying to get better at being in relationship — this series is for you. Come as you are, bring your mess, and let’s grow together.
