MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
on-site is a new series of site-specific art experiences that present unexpected encounters in non-traditional public spaces. Each event aims to interrupt the day-to-day function of particular sites through a reimaging of how familiar places are used and understood. Initiated by Alice McCool, Kim Munro, and Yusuf Ali Hayat, on-site invites artists to respond to the layered histories embedded within place and collective memory. Their approach to curating is grounded in the specificity of each location and emphasises the transformative potential of place.
The first iteration of on-site will take place at No. 9 Karaoke Bar, located in Adelaide’s Chinatown, in April 2026. This venue offers a rich and dynamic context for creative exploration—its textures, uses, and cultural resonance provide fertile ground for artists to experiment with spatial, social, political and historical themes.
OSCA is now seeking Expressions of Interest from South Australian-based artists and artist groups across all disciplines, practices, and cultural backgrounds. We welcome proposals that are experimental, performative, ephemeral, immersive, sensory, or participatory—and that consider the complexities and nuances of site, context, and audience. Each artist/s will be allocated a karaoke room for the duration of the one-night event.
