Community Koala Tree Planting Day
Event description
In spring last year, local koala 'Claude the Leaf Thief' made news around the world after munching thousands of eucalyptus seedlings at Eastern Forest Nursery, just outside of Lismore.
These antics are indicative of the plight of koalas on the largely cleared floodplains south of Lismore- there is often not enough food to go around.
In an effort to rectify this situation, Richmond Landcare and WWF have teamed up to hold a Community Tree Planting Day on a property adjacent to Eastern Forest Nursery. With the help of the community, we aim to plant 500 koala food trees, so that in time there will be more food nearby for Claude and his friends.
So come along, spend the morning planting trees, then enjoy a delicious morning tea and learn a bit about koalas from 'Friends of the Koala', so that together we can support the survival of our local koala populations.
This event was planned for Saturday 6th April, but has been rescheduled due to wet weather.
