Creative Family Volunteering Day: Cooking with Love
Event description
At Our Big Kitchen, the main ingredient is love.
Mama Creatives with Laya Slavin and the team at Our Big Kitchen are excited to collaborate on a creative and inspiring 'Love and the Community' charity event for the whole family. With all the unrest going on around the world it felt like the right time to come together as a community and make a difference for people in need, through love and food. Adults and teenagers (from 13 years+) will be involved in cooking and making cookies. All food made on the day, including hot meals and cookies, will go to domestic violence shelters and other places around Sydney where people are in need of nourishing food.
Laya will also be sharing her story about how she founded OBK around parenting 8 children. Laya is truly an incredible woman, community leader and creative entrepreneurial mama!

About Laya Slavin
Our Big Kitchen was founded by Laya Slavin and her husband Rabbi Dr. Dovid Slavin in 2005. OBK is an industrial-sized kitchen in the heart of Bondi, to provide a space for the community to connect and cook hearty nutritious meals to serve the needy.
Laya’s contribution and commitment to the community is nobody in the kitchen’s vicinity goes hungry and that members of the local community from every denomination can have a place where they can connect with other individuals in a meaningful way.
She is constantly looking for new ways to make the lives of those around her better by continuing to make regular visits with other compassionate volunteers to hospitals, nursing homes, women's refuges, homeless shelters and individuals’ homes. She has also opened a wig lending library to provide those suffering cancer with a wig as beautiful as their own hair.
About Our Big Kitchen
Our Big Kitchen is a community run, non-denominational, industrial kitchen where meals are prepared for distribution to needy people across Sydney. Last year, OBK made 120,000 meals that were distributed to disadvantaged Australians.

OBK Mission: Our Big Kitchen is a registered charity (ABN 11 149 226 568) that nourishes, educates, empowers and supports people in need and always with love. OBK prepares and distributes more than 250,000 meals and support 33+ charities and thousands of individuals. They are able to do this through meaningful volunteering experiences.
OBK Philosophy: They believe in the power of giving. Through giving you receive. OBK offers a safe, non-judgemental environment where people from all walks of life can connect through doing good. Food and giving meals is the positive end result but the journey of how the meal was made is just as important.
