Description

Mahjong has always been about gathering around a table, so we’re opening ours a little wider. Starting this season, Mahjong Night is now pay as you wish. Every dollar supports the University of Minnesota Mahjong Club, our partners in teaching, playing, and growing the Asian mahjong community here in Minneapolis.

Equal parts game night and community gathering, this bi-weekly event welcomes players of every level.

Doors open at 5pm, and gameplay starts at 5:30.

🀄 Mahjong 101
New to mahjong? Start here. Players from the Mahjong Club at UMN will guide you through a beginner-friendly introduction to Taiwanese mahjong: the tiles, the terminology, and how the game flows. You’ll leave knowing how to play.

Suggested contribution: $50/person. We do ask a minimum $5 payment to discourage no-shows. (Limited to 24 spots)

🀄 Join the pool
Already know how to play? Register on your own and we’ll match you with other players to form a full table. It’s a great way to meet people, sharpen your game, and maybe find your next regular foursome. All players must be registered, including children. We do ask a minimum $5 payment to discourage no-shows.

Suggested contribution: $10/person. (Limited to 20 spots)

How pay as you wish works

The suggested amounts are what it takes to keep these nights going and support the student players who make them possible. If you’re able to give more, it goes directly to the Mahjong Club at UMN. If you need to give less, please do. We’d rather have you at the table. We do include a minimum $5/seat to discourage no-shows.

About tiles and sets

We provide sets for Riichi, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese mahjong. American mahjong players are warmly welcome too. Just bring your own card, and we may reach out to ask if you can bring a set to share.

See you at the table. 🀄
