Community planting day on the Gawler River- Saturday Aug 16th 2025
Event description
Community Planting Day on the Gawler River
Saturday 16th August, anytime between 9.30am-4pm
Join us at the Gawler River planting day for the one day, two days or just a few hours on one, or both days, planting native tubestock on the north bank of the River to consolidate and extend one of its most significant revegetation precincts. You’ll also hear about the challenges of establishing plants in fast flowing floodways and see some of the wildlife that has returned to the repaired ecosystem.
MEET interesting people with a commitment to the environment and improve your fitness. (Luckily, the holes are pre-dug!). And, bring your friends!
Share the experience of creating new habitat with GRRR! (Gawler River Riparian Restoration).
The site is only a two- minute drive from GAWLER, with parking along Roediger Rd, Buchfelde (southern end); then follow the signs.
The site: The areas we will be planting on the banks of the river, consist of relatively flat areas as well as some gentle slopes.
What to bring:
Hat & gardening gloves.
BYO water bottle, am/pm tea & lunch, depending on when and how long you are planning to help.
If you have any favourite planting tools, please bring them too.
What to wear: Sturdy shoes, clothing appropriate for outdoor work/planting and the weather on the day.
Children: We welcome children to take part in the event but please note they will need to be supervised at all times as the river is flowing and is not fenced off. There are also some steep areas near the planting site which are not fenced off.
If you are keen to lend a hand for however long or short a time, please register your attendance.
If you are coming on Saturday please register (get tickets) on this page.
If you would like to come on both days, then please also register your attendance for Sunday following this link to book for SUNDAY attendance: https://events.humanitix.com/community-planting-day-on-the-gawler-river-sunday-aug-17th-2025
