Community Platypus Survey - Nambour
Come and spot platypus with us!
Registrations are now open for our next round of 2026 Community Platypus Surveys. If you've ever wanted to learn more about the playful platypus, and have the chance to see one in its natural habitat, then this event is for you!
We never take for granted the moment someone sees a platypus for the very first time. It’s right up there with seeing an elephant or a giraffe - one of those unforgettable wildlife encounters. Platypus can be tricky to find, but that’s part of what makes it so special. Now is the perfect time to spot platypus as the males become more active, putting on their courtship displays throughout the breeding season.
This is a great FREE family friendly activity, with our volunteers lining the river and creek banks at select sites to see platypus, take photos and record data under the supervision of our ecologists. Bring the kids along to connect with nature and participate in citizen science!
You can also choose to join us afterwards for a complimentary beverage at a nearby cafe to chat with your fellow platyspotters.
