Great American Birthday Quilt 9/28
Event description
Contribute to a community quilt!
Sunday September 28th, 1-3pm.
$10/all materials provided.
Join us in a hands-on quilt block workshop where you’ll create a unique quilt square by hand! Explore color, pattern, and personal expression as you create a piece that reflects your own voice and experience as an American. Completed squares will be sent to be woven into The Great American Birthday Quilt—a collaborative artwork celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Unveiled in Williamsburg in 2026, the finished quilt will showcase the creativity, identity and stories of makers from across the nation.
Please note, this is not a sewing class. While participants are welcome to stitch their blocks if they wish, sewing is not required—fabric pieces can also be arranged and glued to create your design. This way, everyone can contribute a meaningful square, regardless of sewing experience.
Submission Guidelines: Each quilt square should celebrate what you value most about America—whether that’s inspiring people, beloved places, landmarks, quotes, or historic moments. Blocks must measure 12”x12” and can be made from any fabric, sewn or glued together with fabric glue that adheres to muslin. Feel free to incorporate buttons, yarn, felt, paper, ribbon, sequins, or feathers. SCRAP will provide all materials!
